Our History

The story of Mount Olivet Primary School begins in the early 1900s, when educational pioneers recognized the need for quality primary education in the hills of Walderston, Manchester. Officially founded in 1912, our school emerged during a time when access to education in rural Jamaica was limited, making Mount Olivet a vital cornerstone for the local community's educational aspirations. Situated in the cool, picturesque hills of Walderston, Mount Olivet Primary quickly became more than just a school – it became the heart of educational and cultural development for the surrounding area. The school's location in Manchester Parish, with its favorable climate and natural beauty, provided an ideal environment for learning and growth that continues to benefit our students today. Throughout the decades, Mount Olivet Primary has built a distinguished reputation for excellence, particularly through our outstanding achievements in cultural arts. Our students have consistently earned recognition at both parish and national levels through the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC), bringing home numerous medals and accolades that showcase the talent and dedication fostered within our school community. Over more than a century of service, Mount Olivet Primary has weathered many changes in Jamaica's educational landscape while maintaining its core commitment to developing well-rounded students. Today, under the leadership of Principal Allwyn McLeod and a dedicated board of directors including Chairperson Laver Raynor Jones, George Davis, David Knight, and Doreen Bramwell, the school continues to evolve and improve its educational offerings. As we look toward the future, Mount Olivet Primary remains steadfast in its mission to provide quality education rooted in the values of hard work, prayer, and dedication. With ongoing efforts to enhance student achievement – reflected in our current 87 percent numeracy rate and continued focus on literacy improvement – we are committed to building upon our proud legacy while preparing our students for the opportunities and challenges of the 21st century.
